Forum Governance Chat - On Break!

Topic Suggestion for July 24 Session.

I’ll try to draft a policy for ‘temporary’ registration in the Forum to accommodate non-members. I’m thinking something like a seven-day allowance that is renewable, perhaps 3 times, each with a pitch to join as a member.

I find inviting folks (prospective workers, partners, members) to the Forum is really useful way to introduce them to the community.

I believe we also want to make at least some areas of the forum publicly accessible, help desk, etc.

Policy around a temporary ‘access pass’ would be helpful.

me says:A relaunch would involve A defined launch date, which we organise people and resources around. My intuition here is that about 3 months from now is realistic (i.e. end of October). Technically speaking we would Turn off Wordpress entirely Launch the new hugo landing website Launch the new player Launch the new identity system Launch the Community Credentials pilot We would probably also seek to coalesce a number of non-technical efforts around this shared goal, including Bringing some parts of the community public (currently it’s invite-only Perhaps launching a newsletter / other communications which we use to convey the narrative of resonate, both around the relaunch and into the future. We would perhaps include a few governance goals in here too if that made sense, including some of the legal or coop process management things we’ve mentioned.

@KallieMarie @richjensen I have access to “interns” in a sense. Would be happy to discuss, but they would need a well-defined project to work on.

Cool. Good to see. :pray:t4:

Peace Resonate Cooperators.

Looking forward to this weekend’s Governance Chat session 2021-08-21T18:00:00Z.

Location: https://meet.jit.si/ResonateCommunity

I’d like to suggest we focus on the work @brndnkng is leading to prepare a final report for our TRUST grant, specifically about the social and cultural processes the coop and cooperators experienced in the development and implementation of the Community Credentials offer.

We have a draft Community Survey that would be great to share and gather feedback on before we circulate to the community. Link here

We will also ask to record tomorrow’s session in an effort to document Member’s sentiments, desires and criticism of community building at Resonate and relevant online spaces in general. (Folks will be absolutely welcome to opt-out of the recording process if they wish.)

Oh thanks ! Don’t know why I didn’t check the timing and just assumed it was 6pm CET instead of 8pm so that’s on me completely, well see you later if I can be there then !

Today, I’d like to put down a marker to bring more voices from the community into the discussion around how Resonate and this Forum work with User & Member Identity, particularly as this might relate to building out our initial work with Verifiable Credentials during the previous ID Server and User API Epic.

‘Marker’ means, setting out topics and lines of inquiry today to get into deeper next week.

Also thinking today might be a good day for a simple brainstorm to capture lines of work relating to the governance of this Forum and this Forum as a resource for governance. Such lines of work could provide a structure and map of collective intentionality to return to weekly.

Last Week folks at the Forum chat set out a ‘Mind Map’ of topics they wanted the circle to focus on.

A document was started here: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/ResonateGovMindMap911

This was the first capture:

"Today, I’d like to put down a marker to bring more voices from the community into the discussion around how Resonate and this Forum work with User & Member Identity, particularly as this might relate to building out our initial work with Verifiable Credentials during the previous ID Server and User API Epic.

Also thinking today might be a good day for a simple brainstorm to capture lines of work relating to the governance of this Forum and this Forum as a resource for governance. Such lines of work could provide a structure and map of collective intentionality to return to weekly. "

topics:

IDENTITY

How do we build Verifiable Credentials into User Identities

  • What are the UX conditions of participation on the website / and Forum

  • Building off Co-operative Principles of ‘Voluntary Association’ and its correlate ‘Voluntary Dis-association’ to allow users to build associations between user accounts based on trust that may be voluntarily withdrawn

What are user requirements to claim Identities?

How may Users manage Identities under Pseudonyms

  • Work: Gather up the work materials in such a way that a reader can understand what the coop has accomplished in this area.

EDUCATION

  • How may Users learn to:

  • Use the platform

  • Participate in Governance

  • Learn how to test and contibute to code

  • How to we provide the labor to provide the education

question: for the practical reason of practicing how to vote on things, how to have democracy built in in small ways? How to practice democracy so it’s not just used for “big” decisions but also smaller ones?

  • VOTING PRACTICE:

communication

    • members that don’t like checking forums but would be prompted to return for a poll or question - how do they know there’s an ‘important question/thing’ vs ‘just discussion’
    • who decides what’s important
    • a tool to remind us to look at the past
    • there feels to be a very big fear of email?
    • there seems to be a lot of reading

quorum

    • what mechanisms are there to ensure quorum?
    • what mechanisms are there to ensure members “show up” in general to things

practicality / hands-on knowledge (educated electorate - as in electorate knows how things work intimately)

    • it would be nice to have more people testing regarding User & Memeber identity stuff? For the reasons of truly knowing how things work, people have to use it / experience the edge cases and fixes etc.

problem solving

    • what problems are these featuers solving
    • at a practical level
    • for other reasons (like money or other political reasons)

problem creating

    • what more overhead do decisions bring?

Misc other notes

  • revisiting old topics - advocate of whatever topics

Be there in two ticks. Just making a cuppa.

Weekly chat is on break while the co-op works out new governance patterns under the Relaunch Renewal Plan.

Should it come back? How should it be run? How often? Let’s discuss here.
